Teaching Observation and Teaching Assistant Week

In the very first week of the program, the exchanged students were divided into 2 groups who will
teach in two different schools. The schools are Satit Demonstration School of Thepsatri Rajabhat
University and Army Aviation School. Both schools are located in Lopburi, Thailand. The exchange
students that have to teach in Army Aviation School were given a schedule of their teaching
programs. The schedule consists of three activities at the school, including: two days of observation,
six days of teaching assistant, and three days of teaching. I was asked to teach grade 4 until grade 6
students.

6th-grade students were writing some new vocabularies

The second week began with the observation activity. I had to do an observation while Kru Pui
was teaching english in the classroom. I started to write everything that i felt, see, and hear. I also
took some pictures while the students were studying. Kru Pui used the teacher-centered method
when taught in the classroom. The lesson materials were provided through the television in front of
the classroom’s whiteboard. She played a teaching video from a certain Thailand’s learning online
platform. On the other hand, when the students did not know about the meaning of some words,
they would try to figure it out through a dictionary.

I was ready to be a teacher!

In the third week, i should assist Kru Puy when she taught english in her classroom. She trusted me
to learn to teach how to pronounce some words in english. The students seemed very excited to
learn english with me. I was also trusted to lead the students to play “matching the pictures” game. I
also accompanied Kru Karnnikar (grade 6) and Kru Muaey (grade 5) the next days. The learning
topics of the three classes were different. When it was teaching assistant days, grade 4 students
studied about sickness, grade 5 students studied about “food” and grade 6 students studied about
“much/many”.

Playing a game as an ice breaker

On the last two weeks, the exchanged students had to make a lesson plan based on the school’s
curriculum. I was helped by Kru Puy to write my own lesson plan using english and thai language.
The topic that i was going to teach about in the classroom was “Unit 3: Healthy Living”.
